Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the world’s most fanciful, recognizable and controversial buildings. It’s a bizarre castle conceived by the “Mad King” Ludwig II of Bavaria, Germany. It was built in the 19th century but designed as a fanciful recreation of medieval castles dating back to the 12th century.

Stage One of the Tour de France

After yesterday’s exciting prologue we have one of the flattest and dullest stages. It winds its way down the Dutch coast with only side winds causing breaks in the peloton. Thor Hushovd pipped Mark Cavendish after a titanic battle for green last year in 2009. Then the route cuts inland as the race enters Belgium at Antwerp and the 223.5km stage finishes in Brussels to celebrate the 65th birthday of Tour legend Eddy Merckx, who won the race on five occasions between 1969 and 1974. Given the flatness of the stage, a sprint finish is probable so I’ll be looking out for our own Mark Cavendish. He has won 10 stages in the last two years and will be keen to get an early victory in after being pipped to the sprinters’ green jersey by Norway’s Thor Hushovd in 2009.

All ready I am £162 up after yesterdays Prologue, though I have no plans for today to be mixing it on Betfair. But if it gets exciting I may have a flutter!
