This was his first ever time lying on grass. As you can see it is all very interesting for him. But, then again, it is very posh grass being so close to the Queen’s house.
Also, despite what I look like below, I was not either drunk or high!
He’s German and he is funny about lumberjacks!
I really want a ranch like George W’s. He has a 1,583 acre ranch in unincorporated McLennan County, Texas, located seven miles northwest of Crawford. The property was acquired by President George W. Bush in 1999 and was known as the Western White House during his Presidency. George W spends vacation time at the house where he has also entertained dignitaries from around the world.
The ranch gets its name from the Prairie Chapel School which was built nearby on land donated by mid-19th century German immigrant Heinrich Engelbrecht from Oppenwehe, Germany, who owned the land that now comprises the Bush ranch. Engelbrecht also donated land for the nearby Canaan Baptist Church AKA the “Prairie Chapel”. A prized souvenir from the ranch is a gray Under Armour athletic shirt emblazoned with a Texas star encircled by the words The President’s 100-Degree Club. In order to qualify a visitor must run 3 miles, or bike for 10, when the thermometer hits triple digits. When he was president, Bush used the ranch for vacations, meetings, and entertaining foreign dignitaries. In the less formal setting, dress code for meetings called for an open collar and no tie. Guests were typically treated to meals of Southwestern cuisine. When not holding meetings or briefings, Bush spent his time mountain biking, jogging, fishing, bird hunting, and clearing brush.
I am really struggling a little with the post-operative pain. I was prescribed Tramadol, which is not a huge help and leaves me feeling quite nauseous. So I asked the doctor for something different which might reduce both the pain and the nausea. She prescribed me more Tramadol! It would be funny if it wasn’t so annoying.
Reading around on the Web I find that some people use medicinal marijuana, which is legally available in some US States. Unfortunately here that is not the case and the NHS would prefer me to be on opiates rather than cannabis.
After seeing the swans we walked on past the small village to the Millstone:
The Millstone was quarried by hand at Swanage Edge, Derbyshire in about 1825. It was used in that area for over a hundred years before being moved to Windsor when it was located on the long vista of Queens Ride:
We then took a right turn and walked up towards the relatively new statue of the Queen:
The statue was a gift from the Crown Estate Commissioners to commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.
The statue is of a relatively young Queen Elizabeth II and depicts her out riding. An old fellow out walking his dog said that if the Queen looks out of her bedroom in the Castle she could see the statue of herself through the whole in the Millstone:
The story is sweet but nonsense as is obvious from a walk along the Queen’s Ride. Finally here we have two elder statesmen out riding:
Now I can whack my weeds in an ecologically friendly way and then have something really cool for the wall when I am done. My wife’s father did a fantastic job sourcing the Scythe in Poland and even sent over three useful sharpening stones.
Thanks very much!
My lovely wife has organized a new Scythe for me. They are tough to get in the UK but in common usage in her part of Poland – apparently her Dad uses one daily to cut some salads for the livestock. So one will be on its way here shortly. Yippee!
The only downside is that I am incredibly clumsy these days so I have had to assure her that I will not cut my foot off with it.
